||
| AFP remains opposed to a pay scale increase for 2003 in current contract negotiations. AFP’s latest proposal calls for a signing bonus of $1,100 that does not become part of the salary base. For 2004, AFP is proposing a cost-of-living adjustment. Additionally, AFP is proposing two premium cuts that could disproportionately affect some employees. Management wants to cut the 20 percent out-of-town assignment premium to 15 percent and eliminate it altogether from some international sporting events. Some AFP employees spend as many as 150 days on the road, and in those cases they could lose as much as $1,800 per year under the premium reduction. For events such as the Olympics and World Cup, it’s irregular and harder to calculate, but this could make a difference of as much as $1,500 for one of these assignments. |

On 401(k), AFP has agreed to increase the company contribution, proposing 5.8% compared to the current 5.6%. The Guild has countered with a proposal for a 6.2% company contribution. We have made progress on some other issues in negotiations — these are “tentative agreements” subject to conclusion of an overall contract deal:
We also have in principle agreed to consider job-sharing language, although we still have to work out some details. On telecommuting, AFP does not want any language in the contract, but we do have an acknowledgment that this is being done and can continue on an ad hoc basis.
