Writers, photographers, designers and activists from the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Bureau of National Affairs and the United Food and Commercial Workers took the top prizes in judging in this year's Front Page Awards and Guild Service Awards, given annually by the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild. The winners will be feted at a reception to be held Monday, May 21 Starting at 6:30 p.m. AFL-CIO Headquarters Lobby 815 16th St. NW, Washington
Front Page Grand Prize Awards: Bill Pryor Memorial Grand Prize for Writing: Peter Perl, Washington Post Bill Pryor Memorial Grand Prize for Photography: Chiaki Kawajiri, Baltimore Sun Distinguished Feature Photography: Chiaki Kawajiri, Baltimore Sun John Albano Memorial Grand Prize for Design: Jerry Jackson, Baltimore Sun All grand prize winners will receive a $200 cash prize and a plaque congratulating their efforts.
Guild Service Awards: Dan de Souza Memorial Award for Member of the Year: Connie Knox Baltimore Nadine Grinder Memorial Award for Shop Steward of the Year: Ellen Newton UFCW Unit Officer of the Year: Reza Namdar, chair of the BNA unit Organizer of the Year: Myra Hatala, Washington Post Knox's award carries a $250, while the other three Guild Service awards carry with them a $150 prize. All four will also receive plaques honoring their contributions. The complete list of winners follows:
