Federal Labor Board Overrules Management Objections,
Certifies Guild as Radio Free Asia's Union

On July 16, 2003, National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Director Wayne Gold overruled the objections filed by Radio Free Asia management and certified the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild, TNG-CWA Local 32035 as exclusive representative of all employees in the defined unit, which is:

"All full-time and regular part-time language service employees, including broadcasters, senior broadcasters, research specialists, administrative assistants, production coordinators and production assistants employed by the Employer in Washingotn, DC, but excluding all senior editors, editorial department employees, contractors, professional employees, managers, guards, and supervisors as defined by the [National Labor Relations] Act."

The employer has a right to request a review of the regional director's ruling. Such a request must be received by the Board by July 30.

There are 125 employees in the unit. WBNG Local Rep Paul Reilly will be negotiating the contract.

Much of the work, and the credit, on this successful organizing drive goes to TNG. Keep 'em coming!
