Beginning with a "Poetry Slam!" brown bag event Feb. 2, the BNA Guild unit is hosting a series of four Thursday (noon) events commemorating Black History Month. To take part, take Metro to the Crystal City stop in Arlington: BNA Bloomberg is across 18th Street, at 1801 S. Bell St.
WBNG VP Darlene Meyer Passes Away
In “a deep and tragic loss” for the Newspaper Guild and the labor movement, Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild activist J. Darlene Meyer has died. An Advertising Department account executive at the Post, Meyer, 64, had been a WBNG Executive Council member since 2000, and the local's vice president since 2003.
Front Page Awards Competition
The Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild annually honors the "best of the best" in writing, photography, commentary, graphics and union campaigns. The deadline for submission of entries for Guild workers' 2011 efforts is Valentine's Day. 2010 Front Page Awards
