Guild Resolution on Civil Liberties and Worker’s Rights

(Passed by Executive Council January 8, 2003)

Whereas, civil liberties and worker's rights are foundational to a free and democratic society,

Whereas, civil liberties such as the freedom of speech, and the right to organize are fundamental to our occupations and central to the Local Union,

Whereas, the rubric of terrorism has been used to curtail civil liberties and weaken the rights of workers to organize, ultimately perverting the important task of reducing terrorist threats,

Therefore be it resolved that,

1. We oppose any abuses of the legitimate need and effort to combat terrorism

2. We condemn the curtailment of civil liberties.

3. We oppose any infringement on the right to organize and bargain collectively.

4. We urge all our members to increase vigilance and take action against all attacks on civil liberties and worker's rights.
