Bargaining Bulletin #4
Guild and Management Agree on Outside-Activity Language

The Guild and RFA reached tentative agreement on contract language covering outside activities and employee integrity in bargaining Wednesday night.

The outside activities provision allows RFA employees to participate in any non-work activity as long as it isn’t a conflict of interest for the employee or RFA and doesn’t compromise RFA’s credibility.

The employee integrity Article bars RFA from requiring an employee to in any way distort the news.

The Guild and RFA also inched closer to agreement on seven other articles that RFA wants packaged together. They are Guild Shop, Dues Deduction, Grievance Procedure, Arbitration, Discipline, Management Rights and No Strike/No Lockout.

The two sides are in general agreement on all the Articles except for Discipline and No Strike/No Lockout.

At issue in the Discipline article is determining under what circumstances RFA would be able to discharge an employee without going through progressive discipline, i.e. oral warning, written warning and suspension.

The Guild and RFA are also working on differences concerning the company’s no strike/no lockout proposal. RFA has proposed much broader language than the Guild would like.

The next bargaining session will be Wednesday, November 12th.
