Bargaining Bulletin #8

Guild and RFA Agree on Provision of Employee Info to Union

RFA and the Guild reached agreement Tuesday, Feb. 3, on a contract article concerning the employee information RFA must provide to the Guild.

This is standard language in contracts. Among other things, RFA will have to tell the Guild when an employee is hired, is promoted or leaves RFA. It also must provide such information as the job title, language service, salary and address of each bargaining unit employee.

In addition, the Information article also gives employees access to their personnel files. Evaluations, commendations, and criticisms would have to be provided to an employee if they are placed in the personnel file. Employees would be allowed to respond to any criticism and have the response placed in their personnel file. You also would be allowed to review your entire file.

The two sides continued discussion about union bulletin boards. RFA's chief bargainer said it was not RFA's intent to censor the union. He said RFA's main concern is having postings on the bulletin boards for long periods of time.

RFA has proposed that there be a single union bulletin board that Human Resources would control. If HR did not like a particular posting it would not be posted. HR would also take down all postings after two weeks.

The Guild has proposed union-controlled bulletin boards in all the kitchens.

The Guild was represented by Local Representative Paul Reilly, Unit Chair Karma Zurkhang of the Tibetan service, Vice Chair Hong Liu and Tanya Lau, both of the Cantonese service and Ko Ko Aung, Burmese.

The next bargaining session is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the Guild office.
