Guild members Tuesday, January 11, 2005, voted to approve the tentative agreement reached in December. The vote was 35-22, or 61% in favor of the contract.

The next step is to proofread the agreement to make sure everything is ok and then sign it. That should be completed this month. Then the contract will be printed and distributed to the members.

Soon we will be asking all employees to sign a dues "check off" form. This form will authorize RFA management to deduct your Guild dues from your paychecks. That means you will not have to write a check for your dues, making it more convenient for everyone.

We also will be holding officer elections soon -- but more on the timing later.

We also will need shop stewards from each Language Service. Anyone interested should contact Unit Chair Karma Zurkhang, or Vice Chairs Liu Hong or Poly Sam. Training will be scheduled early in the year.

January Raise To Be 3.71%

We're getting more money. The just-ratified contract called for a 3.5% increase effective 1/2/05, but the BBG at its meeting this week authorized a 3.71% increase. RFA management asked the Guild if it could pass along the increase to the members -- we said YES!
