Join the Guild Today

There is no better time to join the Guild than while negotiations with The Sun are in full swing. Others already have. By joining the union, you can attend Guild meetings and you have both a voice and a vote. But if you are reading our Guild bulletins, you can see there are many other reasons to join the union now.

Here are a few examples of what we are asking for:

· A 4.25% percent raise
· A hold on health insurance costs
· Sick leave benefits to care for dependent family members
· A cap on goals for the advertising sales staff
· A fifth week of vacation
· Pay upgrades for several jobs in which workers are paid too little

In contrast, here are a few of The Sun's proposals:

· A one-year pay freeze, followed by raises ONLY for those deemed worthy by management
· A sick leave policy that could force employees to take unpaid sick days each year
· No paid sick leave for part-timers
· A reduction in pension benefits

The Sun also wants to:

· Outsource your work to anyone outside the Sun
· Transfer you to any job and reduce your pay
· Eliminate seniority rights in case of a layoff for all future employees

As you can see, we have our work cut out for us during these coming weeks. Each additional new member will strengthen our numbers, send a message to managers, and help us win a fair contract. Please see a shop steward or mobilizer to find out how to join, or call the Guild office at 410-752-6930.
