At-Large Unit to Meet; to Nominate, Elect Executive Council Representatives

WBNG At-Large Unit Chair Mark Gruenberg has announced that the meeting for nominations and elections of the unit's members of the local's Executive Council will be held Jan. 5, 2007, at 12:30 p.m.

In a letter to WBNG members in good standing, Gruenberg wrote:

"How can you tell if you're a member of the unit? Well, if you're not in a unit that already has its own dedicated seats on the Council – the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Bureau of National Affairs, AFL-CIO, Radio Free Asia, American Nurses Association, UFCW – then you are part of us.

"All told, we have either four or five seats on the Council, depending on whether Agence France-Presse now has enough members to get a seat of its own," Gruenberg said, referring to the AFP unit, which had just under 50 dues-paying members at last report. "We hold nominations and an election for a Unit Chair, a Vice Chair and the two (or three) remaining Council members, plus up to three alternates. That lets the Unit Chair have someone ready to step in should an elected Council member, for whatever reason, have to leave the post."

The Jan. 5 meeting will be held at the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild office, 1100 15th St. NW, Suite 350.

Nominations also may be made in advance: call Gruenberg at 202-898-4825 before noon on Jan. 5. "If there are not enough people to fill the slots, nominations, will be taken from the floor at that meeting," he said. "Balloting will be immediate. Announcements of results should be immediate, too."
