TNG Election Period Set

With Newspaper Guild President Linda Foley and challenger Bernie Lunzer nominated at the sector conference in Providence, R.I., in early March, Guild officials set the election period for April 24 to April 29. The official vote count likely will be announced on May 12.

Approximately 30,000 Guild members are eligible to vote; updated rules have been to each local, which have have the option to have a mail ballot, to allow votes to be cast at polling locations, or to offer a combination. The Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild is in the process of notifying its 25 separate units about how voting will occur.

Nominees for secretary-treasurer and international chairperson also were selected at the sector conference. Foley's running mates are Scott Stephens for secretary-treasurer and Lois Kirkup for international chair. Lunzer, the current secretary-treasurer, is allied with Carol Rothman (as his successor) and WBNG-member Connie Knox for international chair.
