Nominations: Local 32035 Executive Council

The following Guild members were nominated at the Nov. 19 General Membership meeting to serve as officers of the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild from January 2009 to January 2011:

For President: Mark Pattison (Catholic News Service)

For Vice President: J. Darlene Meyer (Washington Post)

For Treasurer: Sheila Lindsey (American Nurses Association Staff Union)

For Secretary: Mark Gruenberg (Localwide Unit)

At the Nov. 19 meeting, nominations also were received for the five At-Large Delegate positions on the Executive Council:

Jim Grossfeld (Localwide Unit)

Tiffany Heath (AFL-CIO)

Brent Jones (Baltimore Sun)

Ken May (BNA)

John Small (AFL-CIO)

According to the bylaws of the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild [Article V(A), Section 2], "Nominations may also be received by petition of a minimum of twenty-five (25) members in good standing who shall file their petition with the Secretary no later than fifteen (15) days after the floor nominations have been officially reported in the Guild Forum."

The notice in the Dec. 4, 2008, Forum opens the petition period, which ends Dec. 19, 2008. The bylaws state that "In the event that, following the petition period, there is no contest for any office, the local Elections and Referendum Committee, hereinafter established, shall declare the nominee or nominees for that office elected." (If necessary the bylaws call for the Local Executive Council to set dates for an election period.)

NOTE: If your work assignment is outside the Washington-Baltimore area, you will automatically receive a mail ballot in the event of an election. Anyone else wishing to vote by mail should contact the Guild office with a mail-ballot request by Dec. 19, 2008.
