Former WBNG President,
Long-Time Guild Activist Connie Knox Dies

We in the labor movement have lost one of our best advocates and most tireless fighters. Connie Knox changed many lives during her long career at the Baltimore Sun, especially through her staunch advocacy work as a union member, and as a leader in every sense of the word..

Knox served not only as the highest-ranking elected leader at her home local, the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild, she also was unit leader for her beloved Sun members. And of course, her last activist Guild position was as The Newspaper Guild's International Chairperson.

I had the pleasure of working and serving with Connie in 2008 as a member of the TNG-CWA's Sector executive board.  During that time, she was a mentor, offering much advice to me as a newly elected regional vice president (a position she once held). And her presence was strongly missed at the swearing-in ceremony on the sector's new executive officers earlier this year during CWA's 73rd convention.

She would be proud to know that the board will continue to reflect the work she was so committed to upholding while a union leader. I will miss her as a friend, and as my editor as well. Sheila Lindsay
